Promoting Responsible AI Practices in Scientific Research
Dr. Mohanbabu Bharathi, Ethics Editor of the Asian Research Association, Coimbatore, delivered a guest lecture on “Generative AI in Scientific Research: Responsible Use, Research Ethics and Publication Integrity” at KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, on 31 October 2026.
As AI-powered tools are increasingly used in research and higher education, understanding their capabilities, limitations and ethical implications has become essential. The lecture highlighted the importance of adopting AI technologies responsibly while maintaining the originality, accuracy and credibility of scientific work. The discussion emphasised that although Generative AI can improve research efficiency, researchers remain responsible for verifying information, evaluating scientific evidence and maintaining academic integrity.
Interactive Learning and Quiz Competition
To encourage active participation, the lecture incorporated interactive learning activities and a quiz competition based on the topics discussed. These activities encouraged participants to examine common misconceptions about AI, distinguish responsible research practices from questionable applications and reflect on ethical challenges in scientific publishing.
Mr. K. Selvasubramani, II Year MBA student, secured first place in the quiz competition by demonstrating excellent knowledge of the topics covered during the session. In appreciation of his outstanding performance and active participation, he was presented with a token of appreciation.
Post-Session Assessment: Encouraging Learning Outcomes
As part of the programme, a structured post-session knowledge assessment comprising 25 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) was conducted to evaluate participants’ understanding of the concepts addressed during the lecture. The assessment covered responsible AI applications, research ethics, academic integrity, publication practices and the limitations of AI-generated information.
All participants who completed the assessment scored above 80%, representing a 100% achievement rate above the 80% threshold among assessed participants.
This encouraging result indicated a strong level of post-session understanding of the key concepts presented. It also highlighted the participants’ ability to recognise important ethical considerations associated with AI-assisted scientific research. The assessment provided a measurable learning outcome for the academic programme and reinforced the value of combining expert lectures with interactive learning and knowledge evaluation.
Strengthening Awareness of Research Ethics and Publication Integrity
The guest lecture reinforced the importance of integrating ethical awareness into the adoption of emerging technologies in higher education and scientific research.
Participants gained exposure to the opportunities offered by Generative AI while also examining the responsibilities associated with its use in academic and research environments.
A central message of the programme was that AI tools can assist researchers, but scientific judgement, originality, ethical responsibility and publication accountability must always remain with the researcher.
The Asian Research Association continues to support academic awareness initiatives that promote responsible research practices, ethical scientific communication and publication integrity.
The Association extends its appreciation to the management, faculty members and coordinators of KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, for providing the opportunity to conduct this academic interaction. Appreciation is also extended to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement and encouraging assessment performance.
